First elected in 2020, I ran on four things and accomplished all four in just my first 17 months in office. Elected for a second time in 2022 after our county changed to districts, I am honored to continue to serve you for another four years.
In 2011, I swore an oath to support and defend the U.S. Constitution and the Iowa Constitution - and oaths don't expire. All our laws must rest on these documents, and they will help direct my decisions on how to best serve the public. I take this very seriously, and will not compromise on this, not for money, not for anything.
I succeeded in lowering property taxes by doing the following: challenging unnecessary spending, uncovering overspending, removing subsidization of services that do not provide value to the county taxpayers as a whole, putting more projects out to bid, renegotiating contracts, creating efficiencies via technology and empowering staff to get creative. Taxpayers have to prioritize their needs over their wants, and government needs to do the same.
Maximum transparency using technology and seeking public input will continue to be used to help direct policy, make decisions regarding roads, and whether or not we will allow uncontrolled growth and the industrialization of our county by outside forces. The people clearly said "No" to the latter at our comprehensive plan forums. As we move forward with a updating our ordinances to align with our new comprehensive plan, the people will continue be the ones who direct the future of this county, not me.
